A long time ago, during the Middle Ages, the land was connected to the Knights of Flingern. The buildings in Dusseltal are really old. I mean places like the Speckerhöfe and the Buscher Mühle are from the century. In the year 1701, Elector Jan Wellem gave the estate to the Cistercian monks. These Cistercian monks built a monastery, which was called Düsselthal in Dusseltal. Over time, the whole area became known as Dusseltal. As time went on, Dusseltal kept growing. In 1822, an orphanage was. In 1835, one of the first deaconess institutes in Germany was opened. During the Industrial Revolution, factories and businesses helped Dusseltal become a part of Düsseldorfs growth. In 1876, a zoo was opened in Dusseltal, which became a place to visit. It was destroyed during World War II and never rebuilt.
